Sean Kane
Bio

Sean was born in Peebles in the Scottish Borders, and with his two brothers, grew up watching films starring Steve McQueen, Robert Donat and James Stewart. His love for the cinema, especially for its ‘black and white’ movies, was influenced by his Father’s great enthusiasm. After leaving school, Sean worked as a chef, a law graduate and a librarian, but his passion for the theatre and movies inspired him to pursue a career in Acting.

He earned a place at Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret College, where he trained as an actor. Since graduating he has appeared in numerous productions ranging from Shakespeare to Pantomime and has worked with many Scottish theatre companies. He has also had the pleasure of working alongside directors such as Clive Perry, Kenny Ireland, Ian Grieve, Richard Baron, Michael Winter, John Tiffany and Charlie Nowosielski.

Sean has appeared in programmes for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, as well as in successful films.

His passion for the stage and for new or neglected work encouraged him to form his own theatre company in 2002. Theatre Enigma’s productions to date have included the critically acclaimed Scottish Premiere of Our Boys by Jonathan Lewis, in which Sean played the central character, and Four Nights In Knaresborough by Paul Webb at the Traverse Theatre, with which Sean made his professional directorial debut. He most recently directed the professional premieres of George Mackay Brown's The Battle in the Hills and The Storm Watchers. Launching his own theatre company and bringing new work to audiences has enhanced Sean’s career, and has proven to be as rewarding and as fulfilling as performing.

Sean is a keen writer, particularly of short film scripts and his love for Scotland remains the theme for much of the work he intends to produce in the future.
